Buying Used Car
Things Every First-Time Used Car Buyer Needs To Know
by SewaBeli.my
Buying a used car instead of a new model is the single easiest way to save money on a vehicle purchase. New cars rapidly depreciate the second you drive away from the dealership, losing a big chunk of their value in the first couple of years you own them.
1. Find the Right Used Car
Shopping for and finding the right used car is more challenging than finding and buying a new car. When you find a new car that meets your needs and budget, you just have to head to the dealership and buy it. When you buy used, you not only have to find the right model – you have to find one that’s for sale, has low enough mileage to be attractive, is in good shape, hasn’t been crashed, and has been serviced properly.
2. Making Initial Negotiations
If you are purchasing a used car from a dealership, you may be tempted to go to the dealership in person. That could be a mistake before you negotiate over the phone. Once you’re on the dealership property, you are less likely to walk away from a deal that doesn’t fit you and more likely to make a concession to buy the car. Do all of your research and comparisons at home, and try to negotiate over the phone or by email.
3. Make Simple Checklist
- RPM less than 60000kms
- Car within 5–10 years
- Clean body lines
- No color changes in panels
- All tyres of the same brand and wear
- All glasses, headlights and rear lights of the original company
- Clean engine room. No traces of oil and hydraulic leaks in shafts and suspension. Check parking place
- Clean interiors, Check steering wheels, knobs, panel sound, and seat condition
- Check the air conditioner. Instant cooling you should feel.(people would say “gas is less or need a refill” etc. It means ac is gone or verge of failure. A good ac would never leak gas)
- Check engine sound.rev up and observe gradual rising and settling
- Go for a test drive and observe no door sounds and engines is satisfactory
4. Get PUSPAKOM Inspection
Any buyer (individual or organisation) applying for a loan to purchase a used vehicle is required, under the Hire Purchase Act 1967, to send the vehicle for a Hire Purchase Inspection at PUSPAKOM. This inspection helps to protect buyers of used vehicle from buying an illegal or unroadworthy vehicle.
Puspakom Sdn Bhd (PUSPAKOM) is Malaysia’s first and only comprehensive national vehicle inspection company appointed by the Malaysian Government to undertake all mandatory inspections for both commercial and private vehicles.
